Christopher Patton, a driver for CalArk International, was selected as Arkansas' Truck Driver of the Year for 2010. The announcement was made on May 20 by Lane Kidd, president of the Arkansas Trucker's Association at the ATA Annual Conference in Branson, Missouri. Kidd estimated there are over 60,000 commercial truck drivers in Arkansas. The Governor of Arkansas, Mike Beebe, as well as over 200 company owners, trucking executives, safety managers, and allied members were in attendance at the conference when Patton was presented with the award. Kidd said Patton overcame an unfortunate accident in 1995 that served to reinforce his desire to drive a commercial motor vehicle. He attended the Truck Driving School of Arkansas State University in 2000, and accepted a position as an over-the-road truck driver with CalArk in September 2006. He has driven over 587,000 accident-free miles. Patton has been performing well for CalArk in other ways as well. He has had a 100% on-time delivery rate since working with CalArk, and he was second runnerup for company Driver of the Year in 2008, and he was named Driver of the Year in 2009. He had the company's best fuel mileage in 2010. In addition to Patton's award, CalArk was presented with the Corporate Fleet Safety Award 2010 for Truckload Van & Reefer Division Intermediate Carrier (CalArk International, Inc), the Self Insurers' Fund Safety Performance Gold Award 2010 (CalArk, Inc) and the Self Insurers' Fund Safety Performance Bronze Award 2010 (CalArk International, Inc). "Company awards are the result of a lot of hard work on the part of the entire organization," said Dennis Hilton, Safety Director for CalArk International. "At CalArk, we support our drivers. Every role in this company is significant, as it takes a team to make things happen.
