A storm is moving onshore into California and Oregon now bringing strong winds, rain and mountain snow as far south as the mountains north of Los Angeles. I-5, I-80, US 395 and other roads will be impacted by snow between now and early Wednesday morning. I-5 is expected to see 4-6 inches in the northern section near the Oregon border. I-80 over Donner Pass at the Nevada border is expecting a foot of snow. US 395 is expecting to see 6-10 inches along and west of it with the worst conditions likely tonight into early Wednesday morning. Chains may be needed at these and other points. I-5 over Grapevine Pass just north of Los Angeles could see a dusting of snow up to 4500 feet with 2-4 inches above 5500 feet. Winds will be sustained in the 25-35 MPH range gusting to near 50 in much of the southwest today.
The greatest chance of severe thunderstorms will be in central Illinois, western Missouri and eastern Kansas today.
